A short while ago, someone posted a picture on a jewelry related Facebook group of a burr holder that was available sometime in the past. Apparently, though it is well-loved by those who have one, it is no longer available…until now! CAD to the rescue.
The FB post was asking if there was still a source for this handy bench organizer, so I created a version in Rhino and can now print them using FDM print technology.
Because of the nature of FDM printing, I had to make a modification on the in-use tray. In this version the tray has steeper sides and comes to a V on the bottom. Also because of the nature of the print, you will need to run a 2.4mm drill through each hole to make the standard burr fit down into the holder easily.
But this 2-part box is identical in concept and size to the original a friend sent to work with. The top, burr holder part, lifts out of the bottom box. I suppose this was originally designed this way to easily clean out metal shavings, but not sure.
I was hoping I could produce these for very little, the materials cost is negligible. But in that it takes most of a workday to print one of these, I will have to get $35/ea .

"Hey Gary. I got the package yesterday. Love them.
Perfect size, and love the black, for contrast. I burred and filled a bit, to ease insert/removal.
Very pleased.
Thank you!"
